Chess Club

Teach your child the secrets of one of the world's oldest games.  Chess increases strategic thinking skills, stimulates intellectual creativity, improves the ability to solve problems, and teaches patience and sportsmanship.  In countries where chess is offered widely in schools, students exhibit excellence in the ability to recognize complex patterns and consequently excel in math, science and other subjects.  And beyond all these proven benefits, playing chess is a just plain fun.

About the instructor

During the past seven and a half years, Aleksey Kazakevich has taught chess at Immacolata School, Academy of Sacred Heart, Saul Mirowitz Jewish Community School, Solomon Schechter, Epstein Hebrew Academy, Torah Prep, Wilson School, Chesterfield Day School, and Forsyth School.  He has also given thousands of private lessons and run a number of camps.  His students have finished numerous times in the top five in the tournaments around Saint Louis, with a number of first-place finishes.

About the program

A chess program for all ages and levels.  During eight classes of the program, the students will receive instruction in all aspects of the game: openings, middlegame, and endgame; tactics, and strategy.  During the course of the program, the students will be able to test their newly acquired skills against each other.  Finally, at the conclusion of the program, the students will participate in the tournament (where they will compete against players of similar level), with the award ceremony taking place during the last class.
